Elastomeric bearing pads are commonly used products in small and medium-sized highway bridges. They are divided into ordinary elastomeric bearing pads and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) sliding bearing pads. Ordinary bridge bearings are suitable for bridges with spans less than 30m and small displacement. Different planar shapes are suitable for different bridge span structures: rectangular bearings are used for orthogonal bridges, while circular bearings are used for curved bridges, skew bridges, and cylindrical pier bridges.
PTFE sliding bearing pads are suitable for bridges with large displacements, such as long-span, multi-span continuous, and simply supported beam continuous slab structures. They can also be used as sliding blocks in the incremental launching of continuous beams and the transverse shifting of T-beams.
